Dr. Sushovan Roy completed MBBS followed by MD in Psychiatry, and practises as a consultant psychiatrist at Kaberi Health Point, Subhas Pally, Siliguri. The chamber sees patients from Siliguri town, Pradhan Nagar, Matigara, Bagdogra, Naxalbari, Raiganj, Jalpaiguri, Kurseong, Darjeeling and the Islampur belt.

Mental illness in North Bengal still carries a weight that delays treatment for years. Families dismiss real illness as weakness or bad character. Patients are taken first to people with no medical training. By the time someone reaches a psychiatrist, a treatable illness has often become a chronic one. This practice exists to shorten that gap.

Clinical training & experience

• Managed schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance-use disorders, obsessive-compulsive related disorders and sexual-health cases, with continuing patient follow-up.
• Managed acute psychiatric presentations including deliberate self-harm, aggressive behaviour requiring immediate care and impending delirium.
• Performed psychotherapeutic interventions independently and in collaboration with clinical psychologists.
• Tutored and demonstrated psychiatry topics to MBBS and allied-health students.
• Completed the compulsory District Residency Programme in Ramanagara, Karnataka, managing psychiatric patients and conducting IQ assessments under a psychologist's guidance.

• Thesis: Comparison of neuropsychological functioning, metacognition and interoception between suicide attempters and suicide ideators in depressed patients.

• Publication: “Comparison of Metacognition in Depressed Suicide Attempters and Healthy Controls: A Case-Control Study in a Tertiary Care Hospital” in the Journal of Medical Sciences.
• Participated in conferences, symposia, workshops and CME programmes, and presented journal clubs and seminars on psychiatry topics during residency.

Consultations are held in Bengali, Hindi or English. This matters more in psychiatry than in most specialities: patients describe internal states far more precisely in the language they think in, and a translated symptom is often a misdiagnosed one.
