Time before conclusions
Psychiatric diagnosis rests on history. A three-minute consultation cannot produce a correct one, so consultations here are not run to a stopwatch.
The smallest effective prescription
Medication is used where the evidence supports it, at the lowest dose that works, with a plan for tapering rather than an open-ended course.
The family in the room
Relatives are taught what the illness is and what unhelpful support looks like, because home is where most of recovery happens.
Languages
Consultations are held in Bengali, Hindi or English. This matters more in psychiatry than in most specialities: patients describe internal states far more precisely in the language they think in, and a translated symptom is often a misdiagnosed one.
