Understanding Stress Management & Counselling
Chronic stress silently damages sleep, blood pressure, digestion, relationships and mood long before it is recognised. Counselling gives you structured, practical tools rather than vague advice — a confidential space to understand what is happening and a clear plan to regain control.
Stress is not an illness in itself, but it triggers illness — and it often masks an underlying depression or anxiety disorder that has gone unnamed for years. The first job of the consultation is to tell the difference.
Signs that are worth taking seriously
- Constant mental exhaustion
- Irritability over small things
- Frequent headaches or acidity
- Loss of motivation at work
- Emotional numbness or burnout
- Overeating or loss of appetite
- Relationship conflict
- Feeling unable to switch off
When it is time to see a psychiatrist
Not every low patch needs a doctor. These are the points at which a clinical opinion genuinely helps rather than waiting longer:
- Constant exhaustion that rest does not fix
- Physical symptoms — headaches, acidity, chest tightness — with normal reports
- Irritability that is affecting your family
- Drinking, smoking or scrolling more just to cope
How this is treated at the chamber
Sessions identify your specific stressors and coping patterns, then build skills in cognitive restructuring, time and workload management, assertive communication, relaxation and mindfulness practice, and sleep and lifestyle correction, with medical treatment added only if stress has progressed into a clinical disorder.
What happens at the first visit
A full history, unhurried
What has been happening, for how long, and how it is affecting sleep, work, studies and family. Relatives can join if you want them to.
Examination and tests where needed
Thyroid, vitamin B12, sugar and other basic investigations are ordered when they could be contributing. Physical causes are ruled out before anything else.
The diagnosis, explained plainly
You are told what the condition is, what it is not, and why. No jargon and no vague reassurance.
A plan you have agreed to
Medication where it is needed, at the lowest dose that will work, plus counselling and follow-up dates. Cost is discussed openly.
